Atlantic Station is widely recognized as a landmark redevelopment project that transformed a once-abandoned steel mill into a thriving mixed-use district. In a recent Atlanta Journal-Constitution feature, MMM Chairman Gerald Pouncey is highlighted for his pivotal role in leading the $100 million-plus environmental cleanup that made the development possible.

Pouncey authored the Georgia Brownfields Act, passed in 2002, which has since enabled remediation and redevelopment of more than 1,500 sites across the state. Tapped to oversee the brownfield mitigation, Pouncey guided efforts to excavate lead-contaminated soil, safely demolish asbestos-laden structures, and insulate the site from future pollution. His work not only enabled the successful launch of Atlantic Station in 2005 but also helped inspire statewide change. As Pouncey noted, “Atlantic Station became the foundation for subsequent brownfield redevelopments in the state... Without that brownfield precedent, so many other developments could not have taken place.”
