Westmoreland Joins Morris, Manning & Martin: Land Use Attorney Joins Firm’s Real Estate Group

06.04.2012

Atlanta (June 2012) ─ Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP, one of Atlanta’s leading law firms, is pleased to announce that well-known land use and zoning attorney Carl Westmoreland has joined the firm as a partner in its Real Estate practice.

Westmoreland represents some of the area’s most prominent real estate developers. For three decades, he has worked quietly and diligently with developers, local governments and neighborhood planning groups to help create some of the area’s most innovative and successful mixed-use, office, retail and multifamily residential developments.

“I’ve worked regularly with the firm on a range of large developments and I think very highly of the partners here,” Westmoreland said. “Not only does Morris, Manning have one of the strongest real estate groups in the country, but real estate is an integral part of the firm overall.  Most importantly, the firm’s Real Estate practice continues to grow.”

Morris, Manning & Martin has 45 lawyers in its Real Estate practice, representing leading national developers, lenders, investors and investment funds, global timber companies, listed REITs and publicly-offered non-listed REITs. The firm’s real estate development practice is often associated with pioneering the development of large-scale urban mixed-use projects such as Atlantic Station in Atlanta.

“Adding Carl to our real estate practice is quite a coup,” said Louise Wells, Managing Partner of Morris, Manning & Martin. “He’s extremely well-known and well-respected, and his expertise in zoning and land use is a fantastic complement to the firm’s existing real estate practice.”

Westmoreland has been recognized by Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business and been included among the Best Lawyers in America for Land Use and Zoning Law. His volunteer and community activities include serving on an Urban Land Institute committee on affordable housing options, as well as the Peachtree Corridor Task Force, which proposed redevelopment and transit options for Atlanta’s most famous avenue, Peachtree Street.

Westmoreland was previously with Seyfarth Shaw. His first day at Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP was Friday, June 1.
