Trump's Tariffs in Limbo After Court Rulings

MMM Trade Partner Will Planert was featured in a Barron’s article discussing recent court rulings that have created uncertainty around the Trump administration’s latest tariffs. The U.S. Court of International Trade issued an injunction halting the collection of certain tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), only for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit to issue a temporary stay preserving the status quo while the appeal proceeds.

Planert noted that the appeals court tends to side with the government on trade matters, saying it has “been pretty deferential to the government overall on trade issues over the years, probably more so than the Court of International Trade.” The stay applies to two combined cases brought by importers and a group of twelve states, with full briefing due by June 9.
