Morris, Manning & Martin’s IP Group Shows Significant Growth; Number of Issued Patents and Attorneys Jumps from Previo

06.04.2008

Recent figures from Intellectual Property Today, a respected trade publication, indicate that the number of U.S. patents issued where Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP is listed as the legal representative increased by 62% from 2006 to 2007. The growth is not slowing down, either. With the expansion of the intellectual property group and the addition of several patent lawyers, the firm predicts another big jump in 2008.

“The firm continues its march to national prominence in IP law,” said Dr. Tim Xia, Ph.D., who leads the firm’s International and Intellectual Property Group. “While many national firms have experienced negative growth in this aspect of their practices, MMM has seen tremendous growth since 2005. Its 62% increase in 2007, in addition to a treble-digit growth two years in a row in 2005 and 2006, gives MMM the highest growth rate in the United States among the top patent firms that obtained at least 40 U.S. patents in each of the last three years.”

The IP Today rankings count patents by the firms listed as the legal representative on the face of the patents. The figures reflect that Morris, Manning & Martin obtained 201 patents in 2007, up from 124 in 2006. The number of patent applications actually filed is even higher and continues to grow.

“The high growth rate three years in a row is significant,” added the firm’s managing partner Bob Saudek. “With the addition of Dr. Ping Wang and Chris Raimund to our Washington, D.C. office, we should see continued strong growth in 2008 as well.”

Dr. Wang and Mr. Raimund have extensive backgrounds in biotech and the chemical/material science fields. Their skills and experience round out the firm’s IP group and give the firm the ability to service clients in all patent subject matters and industries. “We have been looking to add a few strategic partners to our group for several years, and we feel very fortunate to have found Ping and Chris,” confirmed Mr. Saudek.

In addition, the firm added three IP associates, Chris Glass, Daniel Sineway and Andrew McNeil, to its Atlanta office late last year. Chris Raimund and Chris Glass are both former Patent Examiners from the US Patent & Trademark Office.

The firm continues to expand its representation of international companies and now represents a number of large companies based on the Chinese mainland and in Taiwan. The firm made further inroads earlier this year as the Co-sponsor of a major product liability conference in January in Beijing, which was presented in partnership with the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and the Georgia Department of Industry and Trade.
