MMM’s Roy Hadley on the Rise of AI-Powered Cyberattacks

11.12.2025

A recent Law360 Pulse article explored how generative artificial intelligence is reshaping the cybersecurity landscape for law firms, lowering costs and technical barriers for attackers while amplifying the sophistication of their methods. Special Counsel Roy Hadley explained that anyone can now purchase AI-powered ransomware kits for as little as $20 on the dark web, leaving firms increasingly exposed to both novice and advanced cybercriminals. He noted that some attacks no longer involve a human perpetrator, saying that with AI, there is sometimes no bad actor to send decryption keys because an algorithm, rather than a person, is responsible for locking up a system. Hadley described the current environment as “the wild, wild west” and warned that AI will continue to “supercharge the ability of bad actors to come after law firms.”

The article also highlighted how law firms are facing more convincing phishing emails, cloned voices, and continuous automated attacks. Hadley identified voice spoofing as one of the most challenging AI-driven threats, explaining that hackers can clone an attorney’s voice using less than a minute of audio and pair it with a spoofed phone number to make fraudulent calls seem authentic.
