Statement from Gerald Pouncey, Chairman of Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP, on the passing of firm Founder, Sonny Morris
We are deeply saddened by the passing of our founder, John G. “Sonny” Morris, a visionary attorney, respected leader, and pillar of the Atlanta legal and business communities.
Sonny was one of the nation’s preeminent real estate lawyers, widely known for his intellect, integrity, and remarkable negotiating skills. His legal insight helped shape some of the region’s most important developments, and his influence extended far beyond the practice of law.
Sonny founded Morris, Manning & Martin with a vision of excellence, collaboration and client service; values that continue to guide our firm to this day. His legacy lives on in the culture he helped build, the careers he shaped, and the countless lives he impacted.
I was fortunate to know Sonny for more than 40 years. He was a friend, a mentor, a father figure, and a partner to me. I know I am not the only one whose career was shaped by knowing and working with Sonny, both inside and outside of Morris, Manning and Martin. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy lives on at our firm and in the city he helped shape.
