MMM Selects Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta as Annual MMMPact Partner

02.03.2020

Atlanta (February 3, 2020) – Morris, Manning & Martin LLP has chosen Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta (PBPA) as its 2020 MMMPact partner. PBPA matches nonprofit organizations in need of pro bono legal services with experienced transactional attorneys, counseling them on a variety of business needs ranging from contracts to employment matters to intellectual property issues.

For each of the past eight years, MMMPact, the firm’s corporate social responsibility arm, has partnered with an organization to work with throughout the year, raising money, making donations, providing volunteers and more.

Individually, many of the firm’s lawyers have volunteered with PBPA over the past several years. In 2016, the firm received the PBPA’s “Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year” award for its commitment and outstanding work representing 21 nonprofits in need of free legal counsel that year. In November 2019, the firm also received  “A Business Commitment Pro Bono Business Law Award” from the State Bar of Georgia’s Access to Justice Committee, recognizing its extensive pro bono legal work for the nonprofit community.

“The strength and breadth of our practice groups align naturally with the Pro Bono Partnership’s mission,” said Jeffrey K. Douglass, chair of the firm’s Pro Bono Program. “We are proud that so many of our attorneys have chosen to volunteer with PBPA, taking on dozens of its 800-plus annual projects. The firm is excited about this year-long collaboration and thinks this will be an ideal partnership, particularly in light of our existing relationship with PBPA.”

“We have always treasured our strong relationship with Morris, Manning & Martin’s lawyer volunteers, said Rachel Epps Spears, executive director of PBPA. “Our selection as the 2020 MMMPact partner takes that connection to a new level. We recognize how extraordinary and unique this opportunity is. This year we will work with the whole firm — its lawyers, its leaders and its staff. And through their connections, we will reach a broader community, which helps get the word out about what we do.”

The firm also hosts a “Cheers” fundraiser each fall, donating 100% of the proceeds to its MMMPact partner. The annual event typically draws around 300 patrons with ties to Atlanta’s legal and business community, including many of the firm’s clients. Spears said the 2020 Cheers event will not only expand PBPA’s reach through new exposures but will double as its 15th anniversary celebration. “As a non-profit organization our self, we do not have the resources to host large events. The timing — with our 15-year anniversary this year — is ideal.”

“We’re looking forward to working with PBPA this year, and its many clients,” added MMMPact Chair Christina Graham. “We are continually looking for ways to make more of an impact on our community and this year we are excited for the opportunity to engage with and support several of the organizations that PBPA serves.  In furtherance of our commitment to our MMMPact Partner, we have increased our initial MMMPact Partner donation from $30,000 to $50,000.  With the additional funds we raise from our Cheers event, it is our hope that the firm’s total contribution to PBPA will top six figures.”

Past MMMPact Partners include The Drake House, Ahimsa House, Horizons Atlanta, Open Doors, Kate’s Club, CURE Childhood Cancer and Reach for Excellence.
