The awards – the only ones dedicated to the captive insurance industry – recognize service providers who have shown excellence and innovation over the past year. The win was particularly impressive because the judges weighed entries from dozens of different firms in all the categories. The ceremony was held August 10 in Burlington, Vermont.
The judges noted that MMM is dedicated to helping both the entities it represents and the industry overall. “Complimenting its dedicated work to captive clients, Morris, Manning & Martin also provides substantial time and manpower to the greater captive effort – particularly in the form of partner Robert “Skip” Myers, who is well-respected among captive circles,” the official judges’ comments read. “The judges were also impressed by the firm’s involvement in the Affordable Care Act, TRIA and class action issues concerning captives.”
Myers, the Managing Partner of MMM’s Washington, D.C. office, co-chairs the firm’s Insurance and Reinsurance Practice. Captive Review magazine has ranked him in the Top 5 of its Power 50 list of global captive industry professionals for several years running. Myers, the long-time general counsel and board member of the National Risk Retention Association, also serves on the boards of the Captive Insurance Companies Association, International Center for Captive Insurance Education and the Healthcare Initiative Foundation.
A captive is a closely-held insurance company that insures the exposures and risks of its owners and affiliates.
