MMM Litigation Practice Honored

11.19.2015

Atlanta (November 19, 2015) – Atlanta legal publication The Daily Report has honored Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP’s Litigation Practice with a significant annual award. The Daily Report’s Litigation Department of the Year competition recognizes what it calls the “top powerhouse practices” in the area and the outstanding representation firms provide to clients.

MMM’s Litigation Group was the co-winner in the White Collar Defense category. The recognition centers on the firm’s work with securities regulation, including a victory in a high profile 2014 insider trading case, SEC v. Schvacho.

The judge not only ruled in favor of MMM client Larry Schvacho, but also issued a 44-page opinion criticizing the government for over-stepping. The article describes the order as the most devastating takedown of a federal agency in recent memory. MMM’s 2014 successes also included another SEC matter that settled on terms satisfactory to the firm’s clients without any cash payment, even though the SEC had originally sought disgorgement and penalties exceeding $2.3 million.

MMM has a thorough litigation practice; Practice Chair Lew Hassett says half, if not most, of the firm’s litigation clients are in highly-regulated industries such as insurance, healthcare, environmental law and securities. The firm also has a very active real estate litigation practice.

The award ceremony was held Nov. 19 in conjunction with the Daily Report’s In-House Legal Department of the Year Awards.
