Atlanta (August 12, 2014) – Emory University Law School’s Alumni Association will present Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP founder John G. “Sonny” Morris with its 2014 Distinguished Alumni award next month. The organization will bestow the award on Friday, Sept. 19 at Gambrell Hall.
The annual awards recognize outstanding alumni who have achieved distinction in their fields.
The Distinguished Alumni Award, which Morris will receive, is given to an alumna or alumnus who embodies the school’s values and demonstrates extraordinary achievement in law and service to society.
This is the latest of many accolades for Morris. Real Estate Forum magazine, which described him as a “consummate real estate deal lawyer,” named him an Atlanta Real Estate Icon in 2012. Super Lawyers ranks him in the top 10% of attorneys in the state for the past 10 years. Chambers USA lists him as a top real estate lawyer for several years running. He is also highly-ranked in the Legal 500 and Best Lawyers in America.
“Sonny Morris is among the best lawyers not just in the South, but in the nation,” said Robert Schapiro, dean of Emory Law. “His legal skills have had a huge impact on the business community, and he has served the public with great distinction. Within 10 years of graduating from Emory Law in 1969, Morris co-founded the firm that became Morris, Manning & Martin. He is now both the firm’s Chairman and a Senior Partner in the Real Estate and Real Estate Capital Markets practices. Under his leadership, the firm expanded its real estate practice into major markets throughout the United States and even overseas.
