Chinese News Crew Interviews MMM Partners

10.06.2010

Atlanta, GA (October 2010) – Chinese journalists producing a documentary about businesses expanding overseas interviewed several lawyers from Atlanta-based Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP. Zhejiang Satellite TV (ZJSTV) is producing the program in cooperation with the Chinese Department of Commerce, which will be edited in China and aired at the end of this year.

ZJSTV is based in Zhejiang province, which is the heart of China’s manufacturing industry. The provincial government encourages Chinese companies to do business abroad. Therefore, Zeijiang has the highest number of companies that the government has approved for global expansion.

The crew reached out to Morris, Manning & Martin back in August because of its work for several successful Zhejiang-based companies, including winning a significant patent victory in federal court for one and representing another successfully raising funds in the U.S. stock markets. The firm represents a number of Chinese companies hoping to expand into the U.S.

“Morris, Manning & Martin is the only U.S. law firm interviewed for practices across the board,” said Dr. Tim Xia, who heads the firm’s Asia practice. “We are proud that they came to us for information about doing business in America, and we hope that the information we gave them will be useful.”

MMM helped arrange other interviews for the crew in New York and Atlanta with business and academic experts. Topics covered included the U.S. legal system, Wall Street finance, intellectual property, the economy, marketing issues and the business culture. News anchor Min Zhang and Reporter Chen Li Chao conducted the interviews on Sept. 24 and 25 with the help of Cathy Jia from the Department of Commerce of Zhejiang Province, who acted as an interpreter. The crew also had stops in New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Brazil. Four other crews are conducting interviews in Britain, Europe, Africa and East Asia.

In addition to Xia, the crew spoke with Managing Partner Louise Wells and partners David Calhoun, Jeff Schulte, John Fry and Bryan Harrison.  Dr. Ming Jiang, the Chief Representative of MMM’s Beijing Office, and Sharie Wang, a senior associate in the firm’s Asia practice, also were interviewed.
