Burns Named Chair of Durham, N.C. Boy Scout District, Past Chair of Greater Durham Chamber Assumes New Role

01.14.2010

Attorney Keith Burns, who manages the Research Triangle Park, North Carolina office of Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP, is the new Chair of the Durham district of the Boy Scouts of America. Durham’s Scout district, known as the “Mawat District”, delivers services to more than 1,200 youth in 55 Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, Venturing crews and Explorer posts.

“From the values and ideals in the Scout Oath to the sense of accomplishment in earning merit badges, young men learn important skills they might not learn anywhere else,” Burns said. “From an appreciation of nature to education in first aid, home repair and civic duty, scouting offers many important life lessons.”

Burns, who begins his term on January 28, was a former Boy Scout, Cub Scout, and Assistant Scoutmaster. He is an Eagle Scout. In his new role he is responsible for coordinating committees governing membership, finance, adult training, camping and outdoor activities, civic service, youth advancement and adult recognition.

Burns is Of Counsel in Morris, Manning & Martin’s Real Estate Development and Finance, Corporate, Commercial Lending and Mergers & Acquisitions Practices. He is also immediate past Chair of the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce.
