John G. Morris is a co-founder and Chairman of Morris, Manning & Martin and a senior partner in the Real Estate and Real Estate Capital Markets Practices.
Mr. Morris is the consummate real estate deal lawyer. He brings to his practice unequaled skill honed by 40 years of experience in the real estate industry. Having served as general counsel for major real estate companies through multiple cycles of the real estate markets, he has demonstrated comprehensive knowledge in all aspects of the industry, spanning from capital raising through acquisition and development to work-out and reorganization.
Mr. Morris is Chairman of the Buckhead Coalition and Chairman of the Sam and Francis H. Hemphill Educational Foundation. He has been named a “Georgia Super Lawyer” by Atlanta magazine for each year 2004 through 2012, placing him in the top five percent of lawyers in the state. He is also ranked in the Legal 500 as a leading attorney in Real Estate & Construction (2009) and in The Best Lawyers in America for Real Estate (2010 - 2012).
Recent Experience
- Representation of a private real estate equity firm in connection with joint ventures to develop, construct and operate year-round destination resort “super-club” facilities in Colorado, Mexico, California and New York, with equity investments in excess of $350 million.
- Representation of a resort development company in a $675 million securitized credit facility secured by properties in the United States and the Bahamas.
- Representation of a real estate private equity firm in joint ventures for the development of hotels and convention center facilities proximate to a major Sunbelt convention center with equity investments totaling in excess of $160 million and an associated $50 million bridge loan.
- Representation of a publicly traded real estate company in its acquisition of a privately held real estate fund sponsor of 12 public real estate funds and four REITs using mixed consideration of cash and equity in excess of $250 million.
