Price Transparency Will Challenge Hospital Reporting Systems in 2024

11.15.2023

MMM Partner Michele Madison wrote an article for Healthcare Business Today regarding the proposed changes by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to the hospital price transparency rules.  Currently, licensed hospitals are required to publish a list of standard charges for items and services along with the discounted cash price, payer-specific negotiated charges, and the minimum and maximum negotiated charges.

The proposed changes include expanded data elements and requirements or format and location on the homepage.  Madison states that “hospital’s current information technology infrastructure, website development, the managed care agreements, and proper billing and coding elements will be essential to support compliance with this rule in a timely manner.”
