ALM publication The Daily Report recently spoke with Ricardo Jackman, who chairs MMM’s Sports and Entertainment Law practice. Based in Washington, D.C., he has negotiated contracts and wide-ranging business deals totaling hundreds of millions of dollars over two decades. His clients include professional athletes, entertainers, and businesses. Jackman is also a certified NFLPA Contract Advisor and conducts contract negotiations professional football players.
The article covers the new and innovative niche of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) law, which allows student-athletes be compensated for endorsements, personal appearances, social media influencer arrangements, etc. Jackman notes that NIL laws vary from state to state. He also adds insight on which players are most likely to be able to profit from NIL deals.
