03.30.2011

NCAA® Men’s Final Four® returns to Atlanta in 2013 for tournament’s 75th anniversary

ATLANTA – March 30, 2011 – The 2013 Atlanta Basketball Host Committee announced today that John Yates, partner with Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP, will preside over the Committee for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four Tournament’s return in 2013 – its 75th anniversary.

Yates heads the Technology practice at Morris, Manning & Martin, and as a volunteer, he will organize and administer Atlanta’s 2013 efforts as Chair of the Atlanta Basketball Host Committee and the Local Organizing Committee, which both work closely with the NCAA to organize and execute the tournament.  The Men’s Final Four will bring more than 80,000 fans to the Georgia Dome and Atlanta from April 6-8, 2013.

“We are proud to have John as our chair based on his long-standing commitment to Atlanta’s prosperity through representing some of the best and brightest technology companies in the world,”  said William Pate, president - Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau.

“I've dreamed of being a part of the Final Four Tournament since I played high school basketball, and it is an honor to not only lead the committee, but also be part of the 75th anniversary.  It’s the next best thing to being on the court.  Our goal is to leave a lasting legacy by giving back to Atlanta through this major sporting event,” said Yates.

“John’s experience and leadership – in conjunction with a true love for the game of college basketball – make him the perfect choice to lead the Atlanta Local Organizing Committee,” said Kevin Duvall, chief operating officer - Georgia World Congress Center Authority.

The 2013 Atlanta Basketball Host Committee will begin preparations for the 2013 event following the conclusion of the Men’s Final Four Tournament in Houston this year.
