MMM Launches Crisis Management Practice: Adding Veteran Litigator Robert L. Alpert Sr. as Counsel

09.04.2012

Atlanta (Sept. 4, 2012) ─ Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP has established a Crisis Management Practice, a sub-practice within the firm’s Litigation Group. The firm is also pleased to announce the addition of Robert L. Alpert, Sr. as Senior Counsel, who will help run the firm’s new practice.

The Crisis Management Practice will be led by senior lawyers who undertake operational and management responsibility for high-risk, high-profile situations and crises. The team will help clients to either prepare for or instantaneously respond to crisis situations, including investigations, evidence preservation, public relations selection, local counsel management, issue coordination, damage assessment and control, liability analysis, and financial exposure containment.

“Businesses need to be prepared to respond to any crisis situation,” offered MMM Managing Partner Louise M. Wells. “In today’s world, problems can come in a variety of forms, any one of which can severely damage a company or institution -- think Penn State, Bernie Madoff, the BP oil spill, tainted pharmaceuticals, defective tires -- the list could just keep going. Without proper preparation and correct execution, a manageable but serious situation could quickly become a bet-the-company catastrophe.”

Mr. Alpert has actively participated in the defense, prosecution and administration of claims and multidistrict litigation arising from more than 40 catastrophes. One of the most noteworthy followed the world’s largest passenger and crew air disaster involving two 747s in Tenerife, Canary Islands. He authored the “Tenerife Letter” which resulted in immediate, direct contact with injured passengers and heirs of deceased passengers, and their lawyers, to accomplish fair and reasonable settlements.

“Bob’s experience is unmatched and extremely impressive. His knowledge surrounding the ‘do’s and dont’s’ of crisis management can help clients potentially avoid some very costly mistakes,” said John P. MacNaughton, Senior Litigation Partner. “And, if they do find themselves embroiled in a mess, he can help them find their way out of the maze faster and less expensively.”
