MMM Adds Second Tax Partner in Two Weeks

02.04.2013

Atlanta (Feb. 4, 2013) ─ Gerald V. Thomas II is the newest addition to the expanding Tax Practice at Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP. Thomas joined the firm as a Partner in the Atlanta office, where he works in the Tax, Corporate, Funds & Alternative Investments, M&A and Real Estate Capital Markets Practices. He is the second Tax partner added in two weeks; MMM added another partner, Anthony Boggs, last month.

“The Tax group is pivotal to everything we do, touching virtually every transaction,” said Louise Wells, the firm’s Managing Partner. “As the economy improves, and tax laws evolve, Gerald’s skills will be of increasing value to our clients. Members of the firm who’ve worked with him in the past recommended him highly.”

Thomas has 15 years experience advising both public and private companies. The Fulton County Daily Report profiled him in its 2008 "On the Rise" section, which spotlighted leading lawyers under age 40. He has also been named a Super Lawyer Rising Star.

He focuses on the structuring and effecting of complex business transactions, with a particular emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, restructurings and reorganizations, joint ventures, real estate investment trusts (REITs), real estate companies, private equity funds, and corporate and partnership tax planning. Thomas also frequently speaks about real estate and REIT tax issues to continuing education organizations in the U.S. and Europe. He has also authored and co-authored several articles for national and international tax publications.

Thomas is also deeply involved in the community. He is co-chair and co-founder of Soul Visions Educational Foundation, Inc. and is a member of the Advisory Board of The Posse Foundation. He was a member of the 2011 class of Leadership Atlanta and volunteers with Girl Scouts. He belongs to industry associations including the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts (NAREIT) and the Urban Land Institute (ULI.)

A member of the Georgia, Illinois and New York Bar Associations, Thomas earned his J.D. and LL.M. degrees, as well as his undergraduate degree, from New York University. He comes to MMM from one of the “Big Four” accounting firms, where he was a Principal. He was previously a partner with one of Atlanta’s other leading law firms. His first day at MMM was Feb. 4.
