Atlanta (July 2017) -- Keiretsu Forum, a global angel investment network with more than 2,500 members, is creating an Atlanta chapter that will jumpstart new business opportunities across the Southeast. The Atlanta Chapter will join Miami as the second chapter in the South-East Region.
The chapter is set to launch Aug. 3 and will be led by Barry Etra, who brings funding expertise and created the RAISE Forum at Emory, an organization that matches startups and investors from across the Southeast to close the region’s funding gap at higher levels. Keiretsu Forum’s other 52 chapters span three continents and are comprised of private equity angel investors, venture capitalists and corporate/institutional investors.
The Atlanta chapter will be supported by startup proponents including Morris, Manning & Martin, an international law firm, that have agreed to become the Host Sponsor of the new Atlanta Chapter, and Trevelino/Keller, a public relations and digital marketing agency that will lead the chapter’s public relations efforts as the exclusive PR Sponsor.
An introductory meeting will be held August 3 at the offices of Morris, Manning & Martin. Subsequent meetings will take place on the second Wednesday of each month, holidays excepted. The invitation-only kickoff event will introduce local investors to Keiretsu and outline the value of a linked, multi-region angel group.
“As a global hub for business and innovation, Atlanta offers exciting opportunities for investors,” Etra says. “Establishing an Atlanta chapter offers new investment avenues for members of Keiretsu Forum and a global network of investment exposure for companies seeking funding. The chapter will benefit the entire region.”
Keiretsu Forum is the world’s largest community of angel investors. Its members focus on high-quality, diverse investment opportunities, covering silos such as technology, life sciences, clean/green energy, real estate, and consumer products.
In 2016, Keiretsu Forum backed 168 ventures with $71.5 million in investment. According to the Angel Capital Association’s HALO Report this made Keiretsu Forum the largest and most active multi-site angel group for the second year in a row. As the organization prepares to establish a foothold in Atlanta, its leaders are eager to work with the city’s business and technology communities. Atlanta boasts a thriving tech scene and Keiretsu looks forward to becoming an integral part of the community fabric.
“We’ve watched Atlanta grow into a major draw for the tech and business communities, and Keiretsu Forum’s global network of investors is primed to enhance that reputation,” says Howard Lubert, area president for the Keiretsu Forum Mid-Atlantic & South-East Regions. “We’re looking forward to providing new funding opportunities for Atlanta area companies as well as introducing investors to high quality portfolio companies from other Keiretsu regions from North America and across the world.”
