Director of Knowledge Management — Atlanta

The Director of Knowledge Management will be responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of Knowledge Management (KM) and Information Governance (IG) policies, procedures, processes, tools, and services for a law firm. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, the Director of Knowledge Management will act as a subject matter expert, ensuring adherence to the firm’s KM & IG framework and driving results while optimizing legal technology, workflow tools, document automation, and data analytics.  Collaboration with other business groups, including IT and business development & marketing, will be a critical component to the success of this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with departmental leads to improve the quality and value of core data assets and to develop and implement guidelines, standards, and processes for KM & IG related functions.
  • Guide the day-to-day operations of the KM & IG function, ensuring objectives are met timely and accurately.
  • Manage a team of personnel, which includes the Research and Information Governance Analyst and the Records and File Room coordinators.
  • Ensure compliance with records retention, data minimization, ethical walls, legal holds, and other data privacy requirements.
  • Serve as an escalation point for governance, data quality, protection, and privacy issues.
  • Develop reports and presentations to management, attorneys, and staff.
  • Oversee outbound and inbound file transfers to ensure Firm and client obligations are met.
  • Oversee the firm’s subscription-based information, contracts and services.
  • Conduct training on KM & IG tools and services.
  • Facilitate KM & IG related meetings.
  • Manage overall department spend and individual project budgets.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, with at least 10 years of experience in Knowledge Management or Information Governance, or any combination of experience, education and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Strong project management skills with a demonstrated ability to drive change and improvements in a law firm environment.
  • A confident leader and strategic thinker able to assess the firm's future needs and align Knowledge initiatives accordingly.
  • Must be creative, flexible, capable of solving complex problems, and comfortable working both independently and partnering closely with internal colleagues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on a client-service approach.
