John D. Northup III is an associate in the firm’s Corporate, Commercial Real Estate, Banking and Healthcare Practices. Mr. Northup has extensive experience handling all aspects of special assets portfolios on behalf of commercial banks, including loan workouts, foreclosures, deficiency lawsuits and the representation of creditors in bankruptcy matters. In addition, he assists REO departments within commercial banks with the disposition of bank-owned property, including negotiating sales and leasing transactions and resolving issues involving homeowner and condominium associations. Mr. Northup has also assisted commercial banks with various securities filings, M&A transactions and capital offerings. In the healthcare field, Mr. Northup has represented hospitals and physicians in real estate and employment-related contractual matters and disputes.
In addition to his law degree and M.B.A., Mr. Northup qualified for FINRA Series 7 and 63 securities licenses. Prior to entering into private law practice, he was a Vice President of a financial services-focused investment bank in Tampa, Florida, where he specialized in capital raising, M&A and financial advisory services.

- Handled numerous special assets and REO disposition matters throughout coastal Georgia for a large regional bank.
- Represented multiple community banks in de novo and follow-on capital offerings in excess of $100 million.
- Assisted in the U.S. bankruptcy of a major foreign airline without an associated reorganization under its domestic law.
