Morris, Manning & Martin Advises HK Motors in Major Enterprise

Attorneys with Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP are providing legal services to an international car company that hopes to have a big economic impact on the Southeast.

Hybrid Kinetic Motors (HK Motors) and the State of Alabama jointly announced at a press conference on September 24 that HK Motors plans to build a new automotive plant in Baldwin County, Alabama, with an initial investment estimated at $1.5 billion. Alabama Governor Bob Riley made the announcement, and other key state and local leaders attended the press conference.

Morris, Manning’s role included advising HK Motors in connection with organizational structure, contract and financing matters. The firm is also assisting with intellectual property and employment issues as well as technology transfer deals and local government incentives. The firm’s team includes partners David Calhoun, Sandra Gardiner, Jason D’Cruz and Thomas Gryboski as well as attorneys Stephanie Simon, Kevin Wright, Bill Holley, Chris Glass and Daniel Sineway. The firm’s full team also includes supporting professionals Dr. Ming Jiang, Dr. Peter Zhou, Han Zhang, Jane Smith and Sylvia Tsai.

HK Motors hopes to be the first large-scale manufacturer of environmentally-friendly vehicles. Its plant will build low-emission vehicles with hybrid engines that use compressed natural gas (CNG), electricity, and gasoline. Production is expected to begin in 2013.

Under the leadership of Chairman Yung (Benjamin) Yeung, HK Motors has entered into production agreements with some of the world’s most renowned automotive companies to serve as its partners in this endeavor, many of whom were also present at the press conference.
