MMM Adds Benefits and Compensation Partner: More Growth for a Leading Tax Practice

04.09.2013

Atlanta (April 9, 2013) ─ Edmund Emerson III is the newest addition to the leading Tax Practice at Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP.  Emerson joined the firm as a Partner in the Atlanta office, where he works in the Employee Benefits, Compensation, Corporate M&A and Tax Practices. He is the third Tax partner added in three months; MMM added partners Gerald Thomas and Anthony Boggs earlier this year.  The firm now counts 15 tax attorneys in its Atlanta office.

“We have a leading tax practice, capable of responding to virtually any tax, benefits or compensation questions,” said Louise Wells, the firm’s Managing Partner. “Client demand in this space is consistently increasing. To meet future demand, we are adding top-tier talent,” she added. “Ed is a great fit for MMM – very skilled, multi-disciplinary and motivated.”

Emerson has nearly 15 years of experience representing employers, including public and private companies and tax-exempt organizations, on employee benefits and executive compensation matters.  He also represents several governmental entities and has extensive experience addressing the specialized needs of governmental plans, including compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws.

Emerson focuses on qualified and nonqualified retirement plans, welfare and fringe benefit plans, deferred and equity-based compensation, and executive employment and separation agreements.  He regularly advises clients on a broad range of employee benefit issues, including plan design, administration and compliance issues, benefit claims, the merger or termination of employee benefit plans, and benefit issues arising in connection with mergers, acquisitions and similar corporate transactions. Emerson also advises clients on ERISA fiduciary duties and frequently provides fiduciary training to plan committees and other fiduciaries.

A member of the Georgia and Minnesota Bar Associations, Emerson earned his J.D. from the William Mitchell College of Law and his undergraduate degrees from Mercer University. He was previously a partner with one of Atlanta’s other leading law firms.
