John Yates President-Elect of Rotary Club of Atlanta

12.14.2021

Atlanta (December 14, 2021) – Technology attorney and philanthropist John Yates has accepted a new community leadership position. Yates, who leads the Corporate Technology Group at Morris, Manning & Martin, was elected to be president-elect of the Rotary Club of Atlanta for the coming year. This means he will become president in 2023 and 2024, when the current president’s term ends.

Rotary International inspires progress with the motto “Service Above Self.” It has called the Rotary Club of Atlanta – in existence for more than 100 years – one of its truly outstanding affiliates.

Internationally known community leader Stephanie Blank is the organization’s president for 2022 and 2023. (Rotary Club of Atlanta members elected her in 2020.) On Dec. 13, 2021, the members accepted a slate of new leaders, which includes Yates as president-elect for the years 2023 and 2024.

“Stephanie will do an outstanding job this year,” Yates said. “I look forward to working with and learning from her as my term approaches.”

Yates’ previous community involvement includes chairing the 2013 Atlanta NCAA Final Four Basketball Committee. Currently, he chairs The Woodruff Arts Center Development Committee and serves on the Woodruff Board of Directors and Governing Board. He is also on the Board of Directors for the YMCA of Metro Atlanta and its Development Committee. He serves on Duke University Law School’s Board of Visitors and previously chaired its Capital Campaign. He is also on the Board of Trustees of Furman University and an active financial supporter and fundraiser. Yates also co-founded the Southeastern Software Association (SSA), the Southeastern Medical Device Association (SEMDA) and the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG).

“I didn’t know anyone in Atlanta when I moved here in 1981 and the community welcomed me with open arms,” Yates concludes. “Working with nonprofits that make the community better is my way of giving back.”
