Jason Watson Joins MMM Creditors’ Rights & Bankruptcy Team

10.16.2019

Atlanta (October 16, 2019) – Attorney Jason Watson has joined Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP as “of counsel” in the Creditors’ Rights & Bankruptcy practice.

“To add a lawyer of his caliber is a real win for us and our clients and makes our team that much deeper and more skilled,” said Frank DeBorde, who chairs MMM’s practice.

Watson says the strength of MMM’s practice, plus the firm culture that encourages different practices to work together, were part of the appeal. “I enjoy working with people in a practice instead of being a lone ranger,” he said. “I hope to continue to build my practice and expand the number of clients I have, in addition to helping clients who are already here.”

Watson represents secured lenders and special servicers in large bankruptcy matters including workouts, Chapter 11 cases and creditor rights-related litigation. He also advises borrowers on practical ways of navigating distressed situations, including sales, liquidations and bankruptcy proceedings. He has experience in a broad range of industries including hospitality, construction, retailing and food service. He has done extensive work on the debtor side of transactions, and hopes to utilize those skills as well.

Watson is licensed to practice in Georgia and New York. He is an officer of the Southeastern Bankruptcy Law Institute and is a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy. Recognitions and honors include rankings in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business and The Best Lawyers in America©.

His work with professional organizations includes serving on the board of the Southeastern Bankruptcy Law Institute. He was previously a board member of the Bankruptcy Section of Atlanta Bar Association. He is currently a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute. Watson‘s community involvement includes volunteering with Tillman House, a food pantry at Smyrna First United Methodist Church.

He most recently worked in Womble Bond Dickinson’s Atlanta office. Before that he was with Alston & Bird.

Watson earned his B.A. from the University of Georgia and his J.D. from The Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University.
