Morris, Manning & Martin is Premier Sponsor of Largest Venture Capital Event in Georgia History

June 03, 2008

Atlanta-based law firm Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP is a premier sponsor of Venture Atlanta 2008, which is expected to be the largest venture capital event in Georgia history. The event, to be held Oct. 15 and 16 at the Omni Hotel at CNN Center, will attract hundreds of top-tier venture capitalists, investment bankers, entrepreneurs, service providers and technology executives from across the country.

In addition to the firm serving as a Premier Sponsor, MMM Partner David M. Calhoun is a member of the Venture Atlanta organizing committee and serves as legal counsel to the organization.

“Venture Atlanta is a great opportunity for Georgia companies to showcase their businesses to leading sources of capital,” Mr. Calhoun said. “We expect this to set the standard for future venture capital events in the Southeast.”

The event involves the largest technology and business associations in the area; The Technology Association of Georgia (TAG), the Atlanta CEO Council and the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce are joining together to present the forum. Venture Atlanta is also partnering with the Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC) and Georgia Tech’s VentureLab.

“This is the first time that TAG, the CEO Council and the Chamber have united to host one centralized venture capital forum,” said John Yates, who chairs Morris, Manning & Martin’s Technology Group. “That alone indicates its importance to the community, and to stimulating the area’s economic growth.”

MMM has long been a leader in the area’s technology community. The firm’s attorneys have represented both companies and investors in hundreds of venture capital transactions over the years, also making key introductions and providing critical counsel. They also show their commitment to the community by sponsoring events such as Venture Atlanta and the VC Forum Road Trip, which brought 20 venture capitalists to the city from across the country earlier this year.

Members of the law firm have co-founded several industry groups including the Southeastern Software Association, TAG, the CEO Council, the Southeastern Medical Device Association (SEMDA), Technology Executives Roundtable, the Technology Tax and Finance Forum, Minority Technology Entrepreneurs (MiTE) and United Way of Metro Atlanta’s Tech Initiative. Attorneys have also held leadership positions with the Chamber, the Southeastern Council of the American Electronics Association, the Business and Technology Alliance and other groups.
