August 05, 2008
Jennifer Pearson Medlin, Esq. and Jing “Jim” Li, Ph.D., have joined the law firm of Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP. Ms. Medlin, a registered U.S. Patent Attorney, joins the Atlanta office in an Of Counsel position, and Dr. Li joins the Washington D.C. office as a registered patent agent.
Morris, Manning and Martin has now added four patent professionals to its Intellectual Property Practice in the last few months, recently adding both Dr. Ping Wang and Chris Raimund as Partners in Washington D.C.
“The intelligent expansion of our Intellectual Property Practice in Atlanta, Washington, D.C. and elsewhere is of paramount strategic importance to our firm and to our clients,” said Managing Partner Robert E. Saudek, adding, “the additions of Jennifer, Jim, Ping and Chris are key first steps in this expansion.”
Jennifer Medlin’s practice focuses primarily on telecommunications (cellular, satellite, cable, IPTV), Internet, software, medical devices, power systems, optics, and antennas. She has prosecuted hundreds of U.S. and foreign patent applications, conducted due diligence studies, managed patent portfolios numbering in the thousands of patents, managed outside counsel as a former in-house attorney with a leading international telecommunications company, written non-infringement and invalidity opinions, and negotiated intellectual property terms as part of mergers, acquisitions and supplier/vendor contracts. Medlin is a former U.S. Patent Examiner. She received her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center and bachelor’s degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Electrical Engineering.
“The addition of Jennifer helps round out our already-strong electrical, telecommunication, Internet, and software patent practice and gives us the opportunity to expand our intellectual property services and offerings nationally and internationally,” stated IP practice group leader Jack D. Todd.
Dr. Li’s practice focuses on patent prosecution in the areas of biotechnology, molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, physiology, pharmacology, immunology, neuroscience, biophysics and protein chemistry. Dr. Li has had over 10 years of academic research experience prior to moving into patent practice. He has worked at Columbia University, New York University, the Max-Planck Institute for Biophysics in Frankfurt and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Dr. Li received his Ph.D. in Molecular Cell Biology from the Max-Planck Institute and the Institute of Cell Biology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Shanghai. He earned his master’s degree in Physiology from Nanjing University and his bachelor’s degree in Biology from Anhui Normal University, both are which are located in China.
“Jim’s superlative academic background and international connections in both Europe and China will enable him to fit perfectly into our International, Green, and Intellectual Property Practices,” suggested Dr. Tim Xia, who leads the firm’s International and Intellectual Property Practice, adding, “the synergies between our focus and Jim’s background are unmistakable.”
