Ward Bondurant and Greg Foster of Porter Keadle Moore’s article, “Later Than It Seems,” will appear in the July edition of AM Best. The article will discuss the fact that the effective date for the revised Model Audit Rule (MAR) is closer than many think. Most U.S. insurance companies appear to be confident that they will be ready in plenty of time, since the effective date is 2011. In reality, they need to be currently testing new procedures so they’re ready to start gathering reportable data at the start of the new year.

Lew Hassett’s and Jason Cummings’ article entitled “The Insurer’s Duty to Defend and the Four Corners Rule” appeared in the March 2009 issue of the Insurance Coverage Law Bulletin.

Joe Holahan will be speaking on “Avoiding Counterparty Credit Risk” at the Reinsurance Association of America conference on “Re Contracts: The Art of Designing Reinsurance Contracts and Programs,” July 14-17, 2009 in New York.

Of Counsel Jim Maxson has been invited to speak on the topic of “Longevity Product Related Litigation: Investor Risks” at DealFlow Media’s Life Settlements Outlook: Critical Updates on Legislation, Litigation & Taxation teleconference on June 9th, 2009.

Jim Maxson and Bill Winter participated in the DealFlow Media International Life Settlements Conference held in London May 21-22, 2009.  Mr. Winter lead a presentation and panel discussion on tax-efficient structures for international investment in life settlement products.  The presentation included discussion of recent IRS rulings addressing the life settlement markets.  For more information, please contact Bill Winter at wwinter@mmmlaw.com.

Tony Roehl will be speaking on the initiatives surrounding the federal regulation of insurance at the Association of Insurance Compliance Professionals Gulf States Chapter Education Day meeting in Atlanta on July 31.

Chris Petersen and Joe Holahan co-sponsored, along with the Professional Insurance Marketing Association, a seminar that examined the new security and privacy requirements that were adopted as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The seminar focused on how these changes will impact business associates such as agents, brokers and other services providers of health insurance companies.
