What Does HIPAA Manager™ Include?
WHAT DOES HIPAA MANAGER™ INCLUDE?
HIPAA Manager™ is an educational program available via the Internet and contains the following components, which will be available June 1, 2002:

Monthly Topics highlight a specific aspect of the HIPAA regulations. The monthly topic summarizes, in plain English, requirements mandated by a specific section of the HIPAA regulations. By the April 2003 deadline, you will have covered all of the significant aspects and requirements of HIPAA in an understandable and manageable way.

Monthly Task Lists complement the Monthly Topics by giving you a new list of tasks each month, which are related to the requirements you covered in the Monthly Topic. If you tailor these steps to your specific needs, you should be well on your way to meeting your HIPAA obligations by the deadlines.

HIPAA Handbook allows you to quickly look up any HIPAA term or read up on any of HIPAA’s requirements. The handbook is written in plain English and is designed to be a quick and easy reference. You may attain additional copies of the handbook for a nominal charge.

Five Workshops, each of which will last two hours, focus on a different area of HIPAA’s requirements. Groups with 1-4 physicians may send 1 person to the workshops; 5-9 physician groups may send 2 people; 10+ physician groups may send 3 people. For a nominal charge, you may send additional people to the workshops. The workshops will be conducted at locations throughout the state in areas with the highest number of enrollees, so encourage peers in your area to sign up! If you cannot attend a workshop, you can attend the same workshop at another location or obtain the workshop materials from the HIPAA Manager™ Website.

Sample Forms - You will receive sample forms that can be tailored to your specific needs to help you meet your HIPAA obligations. These forms include sample patient authorizations, business associate agreements, privacy notices, patient requests to access, inspect, and/or copy medical records, patient requests for accounting of disclosures, patient requests for amendment of medical records, and sample policies and procedures.

Transaction Standards Compliance Extension Assistance - HIPAA Manager™ gives you the information and forms necessary to request an extension of the October 15, 2002 deadline for HIPAA's Transaction and Code Sets Standards.

Best Practices Database - One of the important features of HIPAA Manager™ is that it gives you practical guidance to assist you in meeting HIPAA's requirements. To assist you in this endeavor, HIPAA Manager™ includes a database of other providers' ideas for handling certain aspects of HIPAA's requirements. For example, the database may include information from your peers' as to how they are handling employee training and discipline, patient complaints, and/or storage of medical records.

Calendar of Deadlines & Extensions - Because of the ever-changing deadlines, HIPAA Manager™ includes a calendar that tracks HIPAA's different regulations, their various deadlines and any extensions.
