Dear Friend:

Passage of a new law regulating the life settlement industry is a top priority for insurance legislators when the Georgia General Assembly returns to session on January 12, 2009.  In fact, the life settlement bill is already being negotiated and drafted, including modifications to the definition of Stranger Originated Life Insurance.  Now is the time to become involved in the legislative process and ensure that you have a voice in shaping the legislation and that your interests are protected.

Last year, a bill based on the NCOIL Life Settlements Model Act passed the Georgia Senate but did not make it out of the Georgia House.  We do not expect a repeat this year and believe that the life settlements bill will be a priority in both the Senate and House insurance committees.

Morris Manning has a strong presence in the General Assembly, and has a unique focus on the life settlements industry.  We intend to leverage our presence at the capitol with our specialized knowledge of the life settlements industry to ensure that the interests of stakeholders in the life settlement industry are protected and advanced through the legislation.

We believe that this is a critical time for the life settlement industry in Georgia and we are happy to respond to any questions you might have about the new Georgia legislation and how you can have input into this process through our representation.  Additionally, I, and the six other lawyers in our life settlement practice group, can assist with any other life settlement-related questions you might have.

The Georgia legislature comes back into session on January 12, 2009, so the time for action is now.

From everyone here at Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP, we wish you and yours a very happy New Year.

Best regards,

Jim
